Beginning your journey….

Moving towards better mental health can feel daunting; but, in starting your search you’ve already taken the first step! Many people don’t know exactly what they’re looking for when they first start out and that’s okay. It can help to think about why you want to start therapy and make a list of those reasons. This can help you to find a counselor who has the relevant and necessary skills to help you address the topics you want in therapy.

 

What to expect at your first appointment

 

The first appointment is all about information. Here, we will get to know each other, talk about policies, our approach to treatment and answer any of your questions. We will also talk about your reasons for seeking treatment, your goals for therapy, and gather background information. Most of all, we will do our best to join together in this collaborative journey towards mental health wellness.

Some concerns people bring to counseling

 

Depression

Feeling low, losing pleasure in things you used to enjoy, sleeping too much or not enough, irritability, low energy, and feelings of worthlessness, shame or guilt.

 

Self-Esteem

Negative thoughts about yourself or poor self-image. Feeling as if you’re not good enough or often criticize yourself.

 

Stress Management

Feeling overwhelmed or unable to fall asleep because your mind is racing. Do you find yourself shutting down or running away from important tasks?

 

Anger

Feeling like you’re about to explode at any moment. You’ve already allowed your anger to get the better of you and you’re ready to get control over it.

Anxiety

Feeling constantly nervous or uncomfortable in many different places or situations. Physically you may feel your heart racing, muscle tensing or can’t sit still.

 

COVID-19

Feeling like some of your social skills are lacking since the start of the pandemic? Maybe you’ve done some self-reflection and want to make some changes.

 

Work and Career

Feeling unmotivated or stuck going no where in your current career path. Not sure what to do next or interested in setting goals.

 

Relationships

Some people seek individual therapy to work on self in relation to others. It can be recommended for partners in couples counseling to add individual therapy. New changes in the relationship such as having a child.
